French fries are good, but they’re just potatoes. Villa Verde’s Yaroa takes them to a whole new level!
The Dominican version of loaded American chili cheese fries, Yaroa (pronounced ja-ROW-a) is popular as a late night snack served from food trucks on the streets of Santiago, Dominican Republic.
And Villa Verde’s Greenville, NC, customers have embraced the restaurant’s version — as an appetizer to share or as an entree.
Yaroa begins with a heaping helping of fries. On top of that goes a layer of your choice of richly seasoned strips of pork, chicken or beef. That’s topped with melted nacho cheese sauce. Then there’s a drizzle of Villa Verde’s signature house-made sauce and a sprinkle of cilantro.
You’ll need a fork — and a friend — to empty the platter.
The cost is $9.49.
If you’d like to try the more authentic Santiago version of Yaroa, ask to substitute yucca or sweet plantains (maduros) for the fries, for an additional charge of $2.49.
